A former Governor of Kwara State, Chief Cornelius Adebayo has lost his wife, Funmilayo. She was said to have died after a protracted illness of over 10 years.

Our correspondent gathered that the deceased, while she was alive, had received treatment in hospitals in Nigeria and abroad.

The deceased, who was born in 1947, died on Tuesday.

The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in a statement on Thursday by his media aide, Bamikole Omishore described Funmilayo's death as a sad loss to Kwara State and the family of the deceased.

Saraki who is a former Kwara State governor and Senate Chairman on Ecology and Environment, prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and the fortitude for Adebayo and his family members to bear the irreparable loss.

"This is indeed a sad development for us all, I can only imagine the void that her passing away will create for her husband, the children and the entire family.

"No doubt, its a trying period for everyone who has had one form of contact or the other with her, her immediate family and close associates. But I hope that the family especially, will draw strength from the knowledge that the thoughts and prayers of Kwarans and indeedNigerians are with you during this hour of bereavement," Saraki said.
