A day to the conduct of its governorship primary in Adamawa State, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has refused to release the names of its officials that will conduct the exercise.
The exercise holds in Yola on Saturday (tomorrow).
Efforts made by our correspondent at the national headquarters of the party at Zone Five, Abuja on Thursday to get the names of the party's officials that would be saddled with the responsibility of conducting the primary were not successful.
None of the national officials of the party was available to speak on the matter.
While the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, was said to have travelled outside the country, the National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, was said to have travelled to Kaduna in preparation for the wedding of his daughter coming up this Saturday.
Metuh's deputy, Alhaji Ibrahim Jalo, said he was not briefed on such matter when contacted.
"I don't have any information on the issue," he said.
However, investigations by our correspondent showed that the party was waiting for the outcome of the meeting President Goodluck Jonathan scheduled to have with the 14 aspirants at the presidential villa on Thursday night.
It was gathered that the meeting was aimed at persuading the aspirants to accept a consensus candidate for the primary.
Many of the aspirants were however said to have insisted that the primary must hold and promised to support whoever emerged as the winner during the October 11 governorship election.
A member of the National Working a Committee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the non-release of the names was tactical.
He said though the party was waiting for the outcome of the meeting the President was going to have with the aspirants, he also said "we refused to release the names in order to avoid them being compromised."
Meanwhile, the immediate-past National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Bamanga Tukur, has called on Nigerian politicians to ensure the enthronement and sustenance of equity and justice in their political crusade and dealings.
He said that equity and justice remain the bedrock for the consolidation of democratic structures and ideals.
A statement issued by his Media Aide, Mr. Oliver Okpara, said Tukur spoke while addressing elected PDP delegates for Saturday's PDP governorship primary at a one-day sensitization seminar organized by the members of the State Executive Committee the party in Yola.
He said Tukur said that the exclusion of fair play, equity and justice in Nigeria's political dealings would have catastrophic effect on our resolve to use democracy our choice of government.
