One more suspect has been arrested in connection with the abduction of Florentina, mother of Senator Emmanuel Paulker, police authorities have said.

The arrest has increased the number of suspects arrested in connection with the crime to five.

The elderly woman was abducted last Wednesday by unknown gunmen at her residence in Opolo-Epie, Yenagoa, bAYELSA State.

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Hilary Opara, said the suspect was arrested on Friday. He added that with the gale of arrests, he was optimistic that the 90-year-old woman would soon regain freedom.

The police had earlier arrested four suspects. One was arrested on the day of abduction, while three were arrested last Wednesday.

It was learnt that some of the suspects had confessed to the crime and were helping security agencies to track the whereabouts of the woman.

The State Security Adviser, Lt. Col. Benard Kenebai (retd.), had in a statement in Yenagoa confirmed that the urgent response of the security agencies led to the arrest of the suspects.

Kenebai, on behalf of the state government, assured security agencies of the required support in their efforts to free the woman and apprehend other suspects.

"One of the prime suspects was arrested within minutes of the distress call and three others were arrested less than six hours later. They have all made very useful statements to the Police and efforts are on to ensure the prompt and successful release of the victim," he said.
