The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has said that national security can only be guaranteed if inclusive economic growth is accorded the deserved priority.

He made the submission in his office in Akure while receiving participants of course 7 of the Executive Intelligence Management of the Institute for Security Studies, who were on a study tour of the state.

The governor said that government at all levels must strive to create hope in the people so that the downtrodden could have a better future, especially in the areas of infrastructural development, health care, education and employment.

According to him Mimiko, most Nigerians had lost confidence in government in the past because of its inability to address their various challenges.

He said his administration was committed to good governance to engender equal opportunities for all and sundry.

The governor noted that "the target of this administration is to make all its programmes and projects globally competitive," adding that the state government had also made huge investment in human capital development and empowerment, re-engineering of infrastructure in schools and provision of quality health care.

He lauded the synergy among security agencies in Ondo State, crediting it for the prevailing peace in the state.

The leader of the team and Director of the institute, Mr. Olalekan Odugbemi, thanked Governor Mimiko for his unrelenting commitment to safety of lives and property.

According to him, the theme for the study tour, 'Democratic Governance and National Security: Prospects and Challenges,' was designed to prepare the participants, who were drawn from various security agencies, to tackle leadership problems in the country.
