THE Department of State Security Services (DSS) has arrested six suspects, including a native doctor, over the kidnap of Chief Nitabai Inengite, an uncle to President Goodluck Jonathan, in February.

The spokesperson of the Service, Marilyn Ogar, who paraded the suspects before newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday, disclosed that all them had confessed the roles they played in the kidnap saga.

The victim was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Otuoke community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on February 23 and was kept in two different locations within the state before he was released after 17 days.

According the Ogar, the suspects are: Magnus Jonah, Raphael Inengesi, Ibeabuchi Inya, Oreva Abridy, Tammy Agbai and Felix Onuoha (native doctor).

She said investigation had revealed that one of the suspects, Jonah, a student of the University of Jos, who hails from Bayelsa, masterminded the kidnap and even provided the take-off grant of N40,000 for the procurement of arms and other logistics.

Fielding questions from newsmen, Jonah confessed that he was forced to join the gang due to the long strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), adding that he actually carried out surveillance of the victim.

Onuoha confirmed being a popular native doctor in Osomegbe, Estako-East Local Government Area of Edo State, adding that it was one of the suspects that brought three others to his place for business success, which he did for them, with a promise to pay him 10 per cent of whatever ransom paid on their victim.

He said he played along with them to save himself and his family from being harmed.

In a related development, the Service also paraded another six suspects nabbed in connection with the kidnap of two sisters at New Life Camp, Abuja, on June 8.

Ogar said they were picked up at various locations in Kogi, Niger, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, following a tip-off.

Speaking with news men, a member of the gang revealed that they normally get their weapons from a motor dealer in Kaduna, who usually give them five AK-47 for exchange of 10 snatched cars.

Ogar assured that all the suspects would soon appear in court as soon as investigations on them were completed.
