The students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State today embarked on a peaceful protest to demand the reduction of their hiked school fees and air their displeasure over the "no school fees payment, no test" order from the school authorities.
The school fees was increased sometime ago but the students rejected the move and engaged the authorities in negotiations.
However, the talks broke down and the students decided to show their grievance by protesting the tuition hike which has been described as outrageous.
The management of the polytechnic had increased the school fees from N21,300.00 to 58,300.00 for students in National Diploma in sciences. And an additional N20,00.00 for non-indegines making it N73,000.00.
The rioting students have taken over the Owo-Abuja expressway and the school's main gates while the office of the rector has been locked by the students.
We hope all the concerned parties can be able to sort this out so that peace will return to the institution.
More details later
Thanks
