Rivers: INEC to commence distribution of voters card in August

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will commence the distribution of Permanent Voters Card to the people of Rivers State from August, 2014.

Resident Electoral Commissoner of INEC in Rivers State, Aniedi Ikoiwak disclosed this when the INEC officials visited the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Godwin Gininwa in his office.

Ikoiwak said INEC will also commence the registration of voters to include those whose names were not captured in the 2010 voters' registration and those who either lost their cards or were not up to 18 years of age during the last voters' registration.
While urging the Traditional Rulers to sensitize Rivers people to participate fully in the exercise, the INEC boss assured that the commission will deliver on a credible election in 2015.

"It is also for those persons who may not find their name on the register, who may have registered during the last registration, who may have voted in 2011 but because of one thing or the other, that data collapsed or the finger prints were not complete.

"We are out again because there are lines of activities that we have for the 2015 elections.

"There are certain things that need to be done and we need to start doing them right now so that we can actually attain our destination.

"Our aim is to give Nigerian people a credible elections that will not only be said to be credible but will be accepted by Nigerians, both winners and those who could not succeed will accept that we have played our role", Ikoiwak said.

The INEC said it will engage 8,000 for the exercise.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Godwin Giniwa assured of the partnership of the Royal fathers in the area of voter education.

King Gininwa urged the INEC Boss in the state to keep his hard earned integrity and name despite any pressure by the politicians to do the wrong thing.
