Niger State Police Command has said no state can operate a completely crime-free society without the cooperation of the citizens, who will provide information needed to fight criminal activities in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Richard Oguche, dropped the hint on Thursday in an interview with our correspondent in Umuahia.

He said people should be ready to give information when required, adding that prompt report of incidents would help the command to improve on its current crime prevention status.

He said even though no state in the federation could operate a crime-free society, the state command had done its best to reduce crime to barest minimum even when it attempt to rear its ugly head.

Oguche enumerated the innovative strategies used by the command to achieve a lot in the month of June which included constant raiding of criminal hideouts, training and retraining of policemen and community safe partnership with the cooperation of a foreign organisation.

The PPRO said in June, the command made a tremendous breakthrough in the area of crime busting and gaining conviction of 92 suspects arraigned in court after 51 raids of which 126 suspects were arrested.

He said, "During the period under review, the command lost three policemen while discharging their duties. We urge members of the public to always call police distress call numbers when they need our attention."
