THE 2014 placement test for admission into public secondary schools in Lagos State for the 2014/15 academic session will hold on Saturday, July 5, in no fewer than 300 centres across the state, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye, has said.

She explained that about 140,000 pupils were expected to write the placement test, adding that pupils were expected to obtain a 50 per cent average scores in English and Mathematics, in addition to 50 per cent cumulative scores before they could be considered for admission into public secondary schools.

Oladunjoye noted that the essence of the placement test was to test the ability of the pupils to cope with the rigours of academics at the secondary level, train and prepare them on how to sit and write examinations, as well as prepare them psychologically for secondary school education.

The commissioner pointed out that the introduction of the personalised Optical Mark Reader (OMR) system would go a long way in eliminating the incidence of examination malpractices, as each answer sheet has been personalised for each candidate with his or her passport photograph boldly emboldened on the answer sheet.

She also advised parents/guardians of candidates of private schools to verify their children's registration details with the Lagos State Examinations Boards at Iyana Ipaja, while parents/guardians of public schools' candidates can verify details of their wards at the Local Government Education Area (LGEA), State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) or any of the six education districts in the state
