Impeacment plot against Amaechi will fail -APC

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has reassured its members and the people of the state that the job of the Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, is not at any risk.

The state party's reassurance is coming on the heels of the apprehension in some quarters after the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun, identified Amaechi as one of the five governors penciled down for impeachment before the 2015 elections.

The apprehension also followed the recent impeachment of Murtala Nyako as the governor of Adamawa State.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs to the State Chairman of APC, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, described Amaechi as an experienced politician, who is in a better position to understand legislative power games.

APC said in the statement, "The Rivers State Chapter of the APC wishes to reassure party faithful, the good people of Rivers State and all progressives across the country that the job of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, remains very much safe.

"This reassurance becomes necessary in view of the apprehension in some quarters following the confirmation by the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, that Rt. Hon. Amaechi is one of the five APC Governors penciled down by the Presidency to be impeached before the 2015 elections – others being the Governors of Adamawa (already impeached), Nasarawa, Edo and Borno.

"We are confident that God will not allow the evil machinations of the Presidency and the PDP to materialise. In the specific case of Rivers State, we are sure that God, who has protected Amaechi all these years, will surely see him through to the end of his tenure.

"One thing going for Amaechi is that having spent eight good years as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and four years as the leader of the Speakers' Forum in Nigeria, he is in a better position to understand legislative power games.

"We should also appreciate the fact that apart from politics, most of the members of the House are Amaechi's colleagues and political associates who are too principled to sell out at this crucial time."

Explaining that Amaechi and the lawmakers in state shared similar political fate, the state APC recalled that they (Amaechi and the 25 lawmakers) were all suspended from the PDP and forced to join the APC.

It described the pro-Amaechi members of the House of Assembly as victims of PDP's brutality and high-handedness.
