Day FUTARIANS Remembered DPO

‎The Spirit of Activism and Unionism was reactivated back to the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, at the weekend when the students of the institution gathered in remembrance of their late Comrade and former Student Union Government President, Comrade Adedapo Awopegba a.k.a DPO.

 The atmosphere was silent with a tint of sorrow and looks of sadness on the faces of many students of the institution who attended the Two years remembrance day for the late student leader.

 Comrade Adedapo Awopegba was the Student Union Government of the institution from March 10 2012 to July 13 2012, before his untimely death. 

 He barely spent Four months in office, before he laid his hands on the cold winds of death. 

 To many, his death was excruciating painful, had to believe, shocked to understand and sadden to comprehend. 

 The Journey that claimed the live of Awopegba and his other four colleagues of another institution of the state was in honour of Governor Olusegun Mimiko at an award ceremony in Abuja.

 Awopegba, was also a former 'school Governor' at the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, SAAT,in FUTA before he had emerged the Students Union Government President.

 At the remembrance day, the students lend their voice on a prosperous ivory tower that bears a better future for unionism where it was read bodly that 'it is not over until is over'.

 To many of the students, DPO has fondly called has gone but his spirit is still alive, just like his thought are shared on the pages of history, even his active loyalty is a toeing path to follow.

 The Sound re-vibrated from the echos of the T.I Auditorium applauds the starling achievement of the deceased when he was alive. 

 His shocking revelations were widely accessed with ecomiums pouring in, despite sadness in their little heart. Well, they defeated emotions and speaks out to express their candid words.

‎The Federal University of Technology Akure Students Union, FUTASU, Government President, Comrade Daniel Ashola could not hold his emotion, he felt the need to restore a brighter future for Awopegba legacies. 

 Comrade Ashola, said late Awopegba was a great transformer, who had always want a change in the Unionism of the institution. He revealed, that the students union of the institution was in a 'total sanity' when DPO was alive, because he brought the change they have always foreseen. 

 "He felt the need for a great transformation in the SUG, and he brought a change through due process. "Awopegba, realized that this was the only way to sustained success and he really served the students better by creating a positive change that we deserve, he said". 

 A student union, from the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Comrade Owonola Abiodun Emmanuel, said, they are not mourning the departed soul of their colleague but eulogizing the brave life, spent on earth. Owonola, who was also a surviving victim of the accident, thank God for his own life, adding that 'Awopegba' represents dignity in students politics, with his fear of God to upheld justice, at all times. 

 He said the struggle is not finished, until his late colleague is immortalize, for he did not only fought for peace but for academic prosperity of FUTA and the state beyond. He said the promises of the government is not yet fulfilled on its full scales, and bemoaned on the fears of students activists future. 

 He said: "Students should always have positive testimonies to leave-on because, there is no need for war when we still go back to the round table to discuss peace.

 "We can have a constructive unionism and not destructive unionsm".

 For Titilayo Femi Kings, a Former activist on the same campus and now Students Information Officer, said active Unionism and constructive one is the best to play on campus.

‎He said the institution would continue to remember many of its falling heros, who had made the institution proud. 

 Acting Dean of Students Affairs of the institution, Kayode Alese could said that the University have started the process of immotalizing the late comrade. 

 Alese said, the management would never forgot such a student union, who brought light and change to the faces of activism on the campus. 

 "If you check the front of the Students Affairs building you will see where its been written broadly 'Dapo Awopegba Building'.

 "We have written to the IDD centre to do another stature to replace it, we do hope the people in charge will hasten the process, he said".

 The event was attended by students of the institution and colleagues outside the holes of the campus.
