During the visit of the campaign train of the governor to Ekiti East Local Government Area, beneficiaries of the social security scheme for the elderly who turned out in their large numbers at the campaign rally took turns to extol the good works of Fayemi, while praying for his success at the poll.
At Araromi-Oke, Mrs. Rachel Olorunfemi, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, said the governor had through the monthly stipend made hunger a thing of the past in the lives of many elderly persons in the state.
She prayed for Fayemi's success at the poll and the continuation of his good works.
The rally was also largely attended by youths who praised the Fayemi administration for its many job creation initiatives such as the Volunteer Corps under which unemployed youths are trained in skill acquisition and are paid N10, 000 monthly.
Speaking at Araromi-Oke, the youth leader of the community, Aremu Jimoh, who led many members of the PDP to defect to the ruling APC, said he and the others left the PDP because of the light the Fayemi administration has shown in the state through its many life-enhancing programmes.
He described the APC as representing light and the PDP darkness.
At Omuo-Oke, a community which was recently granted autonomy by the Fayemi administration, the excitement that rent the air on sighting the campaign train of the governor was electrifying.
It was as though the whole of the community had come to welcome the governor.
While thanking the governor for granting them autonomy and the projects executed in their community, they assured him of their votes in the June 21 governorship election.
An indigene of the town, Mr. Oluwasegun Otetubi, donated a bus to aid the campaign of the governor.
According to Otetubi, Fayemi is a governor who cares for all.
He said "I attended Omuo-Oke Grammar School. This is a school that was built over 30 years ago. Dr. Fayemi has renovated the school. He has granted us autonomy as well. We assure him that we will vote massively for him."
Responding, Fayemi thanked the people for the outpouring of their love and their large turn-out for the rally.
While addressing the crowd at the rally in Ilasa-Ekiti, Governor Fayemi expressed concern about the disturbing trend of inconclusive elections across the country, citing a House of Assembly election in Imo State, Anambra governorship election and last Saturday's House of Representatives bye-election in Ondo State.
He said Ekiti will not accept an inconclusive election.
"Let us vote massively and protect our votes. Men, women, youth, everybody must be vigilant. Ekiti will never go back; we are moving forward.
"Your voter's card is very important. Keep it very well. It is your weapon to saying no to retrogression," Fayemi said.
Fayemi said Ekiti had witnessed peace in the last three and a half years of his administration, adding that he would never encourage any act that could truncate the peace of the state.
He urged members of the APC and his supporters to always embrace peace.
The governor also visited Ikun-Oba, Araromi-Ugbeshi and Kota.
