The Deposed Deji of Akure, Oluwadare Adesina has filed a motion at the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State Capital to restrain the State government, and Akure Kingmakers from going ahead with the selection of a new Monarch pending the determination of his appeal before the court.

Adesina has earlier in 2010, sued the State government, Akure South local government and Kingmakers at the State high Court over his disposition and selection of another Deji, late Adebiyi Adesida.

This case, which was presided by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi was on December 2012, struck out on the ground that "it lacked diligent prosecution on the part of the plaintiff."

Adesina appealed the ruling early 2013, urging the Appellate court to strike out the judgment of lower court.

However, the stool of Deji of Akure became vacant again on December 1, 2013, following the death of late Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida, who succeeded Adesina after he was removed.

Already, six Princes from the Osupa ruling House, which Adesina is also a member have shown interest for the vacant royal seat.

In a motion filed by Adesina's lead counsel, Olalekan Ojo Esq,it was explained that since there is a pending case on Deji's stool, the court should stop the respondents from going ahead with the selection process.

Olalekan said "the Applicant's appeal before the honourable court emanated from the suit filed against his deposition as the Deji of Akureland by the first and fourth Respondents in June, 2010. The appeal before the court is a continuation of the applicant's suit against the said deposition.

"The applicant's suit is aimed at reclaiming his position as Deji of Akureland.

At the sitting today, one of the Respondents' counsels, Soji Adedeko urged the court to give them more time to respond to the motions of the applicant, since they were just informed about the latest development few days ago.

Also, Adedeko told the court that the 24th respondent, (late Oba Adebiyi Adesida) has been replaced in the ongoing case by the Regent of Akure Kingdom, Princess Adetutu Adesida Ojei, since she is the daughter of the late Deji.

The Presiding Judge of the Court of Appeal, Justice Denton West adjourned the case till June 24, 2014 to enable the respondents' counsel file their reply.
