Boko Haram: Another attempt to attack Chibok fails as locals flee their villages

Residents of Chibok in Borno State are fleeing their homes over fear of Boko Haram attack.

The sect members, who were reported to have stormed the area with vehicles and motorcycles, reportedly had a change of mind and returned to the bush.

Bukar Saleh, a resident of Chibok told DailyPost that a lot of their people are now fleeing to Askira/Uba and Maiduguri, noting that Chibok is now deserted.

"One of my uncles, who called this morning told me that last night the people (Boko Haram) came around. They beamed their lights on the village.

"He told me that they came with several vehicles and motorcycles, but that they did not know what actually made them to change their minds", he said.

Speaking on the abducted school girls, Bukar told DailyPost that parents of the kidnapped girls claimed to have sighted them in the insurgents camp.

He added that when they returned to inform security operatives, they were told that plans were ongoing to free the girls.

He, however, wondered how the insurgents who are supposed to be on the run could come back to some villages trying to launch another attack.

He said, "it is not clear to me yet, the type of operation the security operatives are carrying out in our area.

"We were told that they are in pursuit of the insurgents, but last night, our people said the Boko Haram members have returned.

"They may come back to attack the village since they succeeded the first time, that has been their mode of operation from several attacks they carried around villages in Borno State.

"We want government and the security operatives to take with all seriousness their operations around these key areas from Damboa to Chibok and Gwoza and part of Askira/Uba from the southern part of this state and the whole of the northern part, even if it means declaring total war in these areas".
