APC Ward Congress in Rivers state peaceful

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has conducted ward congresses across the state with assurances to members that equal rights will be given to them.

It was recalled that the congress, which was initially scheduled for last Saturday, was marred by demonstrations and agitations from different groups within the party.

One of the groups known as members of the legacy party had accused the PDP members who recently joined the APC in the state of discriminating against the 'real owners of the APC'.

Legacy consists members who emanated from the defunct AD, AC, ACN, APC, ANPP, and CPC.

Members of the legacy group led by Mmuen Kpagene also accused the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi of hijacking the party structure.

In a swift reaction, Governor Amaechi held a meeting with the demonstrators and promised to resolve all the agitations.

Also, Publicity secretary of the party in Rivers State, Andy Nweye told journalists at the party secretariat that APC would consider all members of the party to fill positions at all levels including the local government and state levels.

Nweye insisted that the APC is a party for progressives and that the nomenclature will replicated in their action.

In the meantime, Our correspondent, who monitored the congress in some parts of the state including Obio-Akpor, Emohua, Ogba-Egbeme-Ndoni and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas, reports that the APC Ward congress was well attended by party faithfuls and no report of violence was received.
